About The Role

The role

PLEASE NOTE THIS ROLE IS TO START IN SEPTEMBER 2025. INTERVIEWS WILL TAKE PLACE IN SPRING 2025 

As a Graduate Building Surveyor , you'll join the Gateley Smithers Purslow team in Newcastle to help deliver comprehensive building surveying services. Your role will involve advising clients across sectors on the design, construction, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of buildings and sites.
On our Graduate Programme you will gain hands-on experience, expert mentorship with a structured development plan. We'll cover the costs and streamline the process of achieving your professional accreditation.

 
As a Graduate you will support with:

  • Providing advice on the design, construction, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of all types of buildings and sites.
  • Undertaking inspections, which involve acquisition surveys, condition reports, measured surveys and defect investigations.
  • Preparing reports, schedules of work and works specifications.
  • Designing and overseeing works using recognised building contracts and adhering to current technical standards.
  • Develop an understanding and apply other relevant legislation such as health and safety, party wall, building regulations and planning.
  • Ensuring all work complies with the requirements of the Company’s administrative, personnel procedures and Health & Safety regulations.

The person

What you’ll need:

  • A full UK driving license and access to a car is essential for this role. Regular travel to various client sites, often in remote locations will be required.
  • A RICS accredited degree in Building Surveying, having graduated or receiving your degree qualification before August 2025.
  • You will have the right to live and work in the UK. N.B. Due to changes in the UK Government’s minimum salary requirements for visa sponsorship, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this level of role.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to liaise with clients and work as part of a wider national team.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail to produce technical documents.
  • Methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Experience of working to deadlines
  • Knowledge of consulting engineering, surveying, architectural and planning practices and procedures. Supported by an awareness of the latest statutory requirements and technical publications.
  • Understanding of CDM Regs 2015, Party Wall and Building Regulation legislation.
